Terravista and Lankan Rupee were ranked the world’s equal highest-rated sprinters at the conclusion of 2014, and have both been confirmed in 2015 T.J. Smith first acceptances.

Posting a commendable race record of nine wins and one minor place finish from his 13 competitive starts so far, Terravista registered a standout campaign through the 2014 Spring Carnival and is a leading chance for 2015 T.J. Smith Stakes success.

Returning for success in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) on August 23rd, Terravista continued his impressive run through the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) on September 20th, and while unlucky to finish fifth in a fanning finish in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) on October 24th, ended is preparation in the best way possible when taking out the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) on November 8th.

The standout performer of the 2014 Australian racing calendar, defending T.J. Smith Stakes champion Lankan Rupee has returned to racing in typically scintillating form this season and will be difficult to beat on Day 1 of The Championships.

Winning the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) upon resuming in 2014 before completing an incredible run of victories in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m), Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and T.J. Smith Stakes, the son of Redoute’s Choice finished a close second in each of the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) and Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) first-up in spring, but claimed a fourth Group 1 win in the Manikato Stakes.

Ending his year third in the Darley Classic, Lankan Rupee stamped his claims as a serious 2015 sprint threat when jogging home to win the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) first-up on February 21st.

In what is perhaps a good omen for the Team Hawkes sprinter this year, Chautauqua won the Rubiton Stakes with a heavy weight first-up, and will undoubtedly be in position to strike when contesting the 2015 T.J. Smith Stakes.

Unable to post much of a consistent run of form through autumn, Chautauqua undoubtedly found career-best form to date in spring; taking out each of the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) first-up before finishing second in the Darley Classic.

Deep Field suffered the first loss of his career when third in the Lightning Stakes first-up this time, but remains in contention for Group 1 success this season after being confirmed in TJ Smith Stakes first acceptances.

Taking out a pair of minor sprints on debut last winter before returning to the paddock, Deep Field comfortably won the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1100m) on September 24th before making a successful transition to black type racing in winning the Listed Lightning (1100m) and Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m).

Likely to retire into a stud career following his autumn campaign, the 2015 T.J. Smith Stakes may very well figure as Deep Field’s racing swansong.
