Exosphere has failed to fire in his two most recent starts but interestingly remains clear $2.80 favourite in 2016 TJ Smith Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Returning in spring in particularly slick form, Exosphere charged home to win the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) first-up before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) a fortnight later.

Returning to the paddock for a brief freshen-up before posting another impressive win in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) on October 3rd, Exosphere failed to fire as clear odds-on favourite in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) and finished fourth.

Having again failed to justify favouritism when fourth in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) first-up on February 20th, Exosphere is sure to relish a return to the Sydney way of going and has been confirmed to be partnered by James McDonald.

Chautauqua experienced an off day when third in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) three weeks ago and arguably offers punters the best value for money at current TJ Smith Stakes odds of $3.40.

Posting ten wins and eight minors through twenty career starts so far, the Encosta De Lago gelding broke through for a maiden win at the highest level in last year’s TJ Smith Stakes before a luckless run for third in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Resuming in spring for consecutive wins in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) and Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) Chautauqua arguably produced a career-best effort to date to win the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) on October 23rd, but failed to make up the distance on Delectation late when second in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m)

Having won the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes first-up this time, Chautauqua should find a good position off pace in the TJ Smith Stakes from barrier 11.

Interestingly figuring as the only other runner currently available at 2016 TJ Smith Stakes odds of less-than $10, English ($9) has been charged with carrying a race-low 54.5kgs but will need luck in running after drawing barrier 14.

Stamping herself as a filly to follow through a strong two-year-old campaign highlighted by success in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) and second in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), English was unlucky to miss the entire Spring Carnival through injury.

Having clearly overcome all ailments when resuming this time for success in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), English ran on for a credible sixth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) a fortnight ago.
