Exosphere interestingly remains clear $2.70 favourite in 2016 TJ Smith Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Chautauqua ($3.50) and English ($9).

Will Exosphere justify favouritism and win the 2016 TJ Smith Stakes or will one of his many talented rivals find the line in the clear?

Chautauqua ($3.50)

Classy sprinter Chautauqua is arguably the standout of the strong TJ Smith Stakes field and is positioned well to return to winning form on Day 1 of The Championships. Winning each of the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) and Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) upon resuming in spring, Chautauqua produced a huge late turn of foot to win the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) but was unable to make up the distance late when second in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m). Having won the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) first-up this time, the Encosta De Lago gelding was flat when third in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) last start but will relish a return to the Sydney way of going.

Terravista ($13)

Terravista was unlucky to be held up in the late stages of The Galaxy (1100m) last start, but has reportedly taken plenty of condition from the run and represents terrific value at current TJ Smith Stakes odds of $13 for success or $3.60 to finish in the first three. A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the Darley Classic, the Captain Rio gelding returned to competition in slick form this time and was unlucky to lose the Lightning Stakes first-up by the bob of a head. Drawn well in barrier 7, Terravista will be partnered by in-form hoop Brenton Avdulla in the TJ Smith Stakes.

Delectation ($19)

Delectation is yet to reach peak condition through two starts this time but is undoubtedly offered his best chance to date in the TJ Smith Stakes from barrier 2, and with leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the saddle. Posting a number of impressive results between lacklustre performances through the entire 2015 calendar, Delectation capped his year with a maiden win at the highest level in the Darley Classic. The Shamardal gelding represents particularly good value for money at current $4.80 TJ Smith Stakes odds to finish in the first three.
